Freshman Olivia Ocampo has been recognized as the soccer First Team All-PacWest and honored Freshman of the Year for the conference. Ocampo led the Eagles this season with eight goals, accomplishing that by only taking 23 shots, with 13 finding the frame of the goal. She had four game-winning goals this year and a dominant presence in the midfield. Her great performances in her first collegiate season are just a glimpse of what she will bring to the team in the coming years. 

Ocampo attended Cypress High School while being named 2x Varsity MVP, Varsity All-Academic Team, and 2x Varsity All-League First Team. Midfielder Ocampo said, “It is an honor to be honored with this award, it is something I’ve seen but would have never imagined and I am beyond grateful.” 

When accomplishing such great milestones, Ocampo said, “the main emotion I feel is just pure joy because it is so refreshing to see your hard work pay off.” She added, “My family and teammates motivate me because they are always supporting me and the best part about competing is being able to do it with some of my best friends and enjoy our wins together.”

The team atmosphere that the soccer team has is what Ocampo loves most. She said, “Being a part of a team sport brings me some of my closest friends, provides an outlet for stress, and it’s overall just fun to be a part of.” 

Assistant Coach Cheyne Gordon said, “Olivia is a player that I first met when she tried out for my club (Slammers FC) in Newport Beach and from the first training session I knew she was special.” He added, “She saw the game and understood it better than players that were going on to play in power five conferences. She was able to make the team which was a top 10 club team in the country for that age.”

Gordon finds Ocampo’s work ethic to be incredible and said, “She is blessed with amazing endurance.” He added, “She has really blossomed in her role here at Concordia.” In conference, Ocampo is tied for second in goals, tied for second in game winning goals, third in points, and overall leading in scoring and points on the team.
