Dear Students,

The fall semester is quickly coming to a close, as you are all too aware. There are many terrific, celebratory events towards the end of the semester. After such a long semester, you kind of just want to hang out with your friends until you leave for home.

However, you still have work to do. You need to put final touches on those essays -- OK, let’s be honest, some of you still need to start those essays! You might need to finish up requirements of your internship or research project. And some of you are anxious about those dreaded final exams.

It’s almost like things are back to normal. Of course, there are still concerns, but please slow down and reflect for a moment when your roommate is griping about a class or when you realize you have dozens of hours of studying before you. Slow down, smile and send up a prayer of thanksgiving. This is the normalcy we have been yearning for!

The faculty and staff are extremely proud of you! You’ve earned the holiday respite that is coming. Enjoy the time at home, and for students remaining near campus, enjoy this time among friends. Slow down, smile, and send up a prayer of thanks.

But before you crack open the gifts or pose for an ugly sweater selfie, let me remind you of the true meaning of Christmas. The Lord took on human flesh and was born in Bethlehem to bring light to a world in darkness and hope to a world in desperate need. Because He has lived as a human, He knows weariness, anxiety, sorrow -- and He knows the joy of friendship, the pride of accomplishment, and the love of a family.

My prayer for each of you is that you will take a few minutes to reflect on the blessings in your life. Thanks be to God that we now are experiencing a taste of normalcy.

May the Lord bless and keep you and yours this Christmas season.
