Welcome back, Concordia students! If you’re looking for some musical entertainment before semester work and classes start to pick up the pace, check out the Sinfonietta Sunday Evening Concert with Tony Ellis. If a nice evening of flutes, horns, a selection of other orchestra instruments, and an evening of fine dining provided by Bon Appetit cafe sounds enticing to you, then the Sinfonietta Sunday evening concert is exactly the place you want to be on Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m.
“This concert is designed to utilize the intimate acoustics of Zhang Hall in the Borland-Manske Center. Therefore, we use a small orchestra and can seat approximately 120 people. It also is designed to be a shorter concert, less than one hour, to cap off the weekend. Concert-goers may enjoy the concert for only $6!” said Dr. Held, Professor and Director of Arts and Instrumental Activities.
The concert will be brief. So, you can get your dinner, enjoy a good selection of music by the symphony orchestra, and still be left with enough time to have an evening stroll to walk off the meal and melodies.
Not only that but the Sinfonietta Sunday Evening concert will also feature some special guests! The first is Tony Ellis, long-time trumpeter with the Pacific Symphony. The second is Esther Huh, a community member who studies with Dr. Tom Mueller [Music Department Chair and Associate Professor] on harpsichord.
“This concert is designed to feature leading professionals in concert with Concordia's excellent students. It is offered once per semester and I hope that it's reputation will grow and grow. I am sure it will,” said Held.
So come one, come all. Bring your friends, and bring your mask. For more information, visit cui.edu/arts/music/events. See you there!
