Hey Concordia,

Your benevolent Secretary spent this weekend at Disneyland with her mom and sister and missed out on the epic LEAD x Hunt event that happened Friday night. Lip Sync with the Silent Disco afterwards was a major hit, and if you were unable to make it like I was, our wonderful Treasurer recapped the event for us!

Hey! This is Daniel Woodfin, the ASCUI Treasurer. I wanted to say hi and tell you guys about my weekend. On Friday, I attended Concordia’s first annual Lip Sync Battle. It was super fun! Six different groups competed by lip syncing and dancing to a song of their choice. The first group up was The Hunt in their lovely green and gold striped overalls. They did a mash-up of popular songs and dance moves including twerking, making it rain money and doing the worm. The next group, The Lady Hoopers, killed it with their rendition of “Thank you, next” by Ariana Grande. They shunned boys on stage. Ariana would be so proud. The fearless leaders of The Hunt, JJ and Mason, did “Love is an Open Door” from Frozen. The biggest twist: Mason was Anna and JJ was Hans. Many said Mason really rocked that green dress. It was certainly a unique experience. Some of the PALs were on next with their own take of the Treblemakers performance from the hit blockbuster “Pitch Perfect.” Let’s just say the PALs did it better. The fifth (and my favorite) lip sync was ASCUI doing “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore. It had everything: clothes racks, synchronized dance moves, killer thrifted fits and a money gun. It was bomb. The sixth and final performance were the lovely Spice Girls, which was a group of best friends who put on some colorful wigs and ended the night with “Wannabe” by none other than The OG Spice Girls.

The night was a ball, and the host, Mrs. Mo, did an extraordinary job. The most exciting part about it was that ASCUI won! It was so exciting, I screamed like a little girl and jumped up and down. It was an iconic night that I will always remember.

If you missed out on the fun, I’d highly recommend participating next year- although be forewarned, rehearsals are not for the faint of heart. It’s showbiz, baby.

Our next LEAD event is coming up on October 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and it’s our annual Fall Festival. Come down to the Student Union Patio for a free petting zoo, a caricature artist, a photo booth and caramel apples! There will be games, raffle prizes and more; come celebrate fall with us!

Until we chat again Concordia!
