Yosemite

Hello Golden Eagles!

We have reached mid-semester, and students are busy with activities, papers and exams. But hopefully, you were all able to get a restful couple of days off on Mid-Semester Break! Whether you were able to travel home, take some time off, or get some rest, we hope it was a good long weekend.

One group of Concordia students headed up to Yosemite through our CU Active Basecamp  program. These trips are put on by our Director of Outdoor Recreation, Mike Ottenad, and  have been a great resource for students to get off campus and explore. Through these  basecamp trips, students have previously visited Joshua Tree, Sedona, Hume Lake and more.

The students who headed up to Northern California to explore Yosemite National Park were able to bring camping gear and pitch tents on a campsite near the national park. The trip was full of hiking, campfires, amazing views and community-building.

Students were able to explore and see so many cool parts of Yosemite, like waterfalls, stars,  sunrises and rock walls. Mason Dalbeck, senior and a fellow ASCUI board  member, joined the group on the trip and had a great time. His favorite part was taking a  nap on top of a waterfall. Dalbeck said, “Seeing the sunrise over Half-Dome was a transcending experience.”

Amanda Renfro, senior, also enjoyed her time in Yosemite over break. She said, “I thought  stargazing in the valley was the coolest part. We even got to see shooting stars.”

Additionally, they were able to be in community together while exploring this National Park. Julia Swan, junior, said, “My favorite part of Yosemite was getting to experience people in a real way. When camping and going on long drives, you see different sides of people, and they are so much fun!”

Overall, all the students on this trip had a blast exploring the National Park and getting to  know new people while doing it. If this is something that you would be interested in, keep  your eyes open for more trips to come. These trips will typically happen over shorter breaks to get off campus and explore.

Now our Golden Eagles are back into the swing of things being back from break! They are  back to their busy schedules filled with extracurriculars and class assignments. Get your  friends together and join us for the Fall Festival today on the Student Union Patio with fun fall games, food, and even a mechanical bull! You do not want to miss these events. Until next time Concordia!
