Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) is an organization with a chapter at Concordia that operates nationally and boasts a variety of benefits for students even after they graduate.
ODK is a national leadership society that connects student leaders at colleges nationwide. ODK recognizes students in leadership roles and provides them opportunities to grow through the connections they make and the resources available to them through the organization.
Senior and Concordia’s ODK Circle President Rebekah Mehrley said, “ODK offers a number of professional development opportunities, both locally and nationally, and looks very impressive on a resume.” It is beneficial for building a bright future and can help you make meaningful connections in the present. Mehrley added, “Our membership is diverse, and it's awesome to see, for example, team captains from athletics be able to collaborate with people on choir boards. A lot of these people wouldn't otherwise meet, but ODK becomes a common ground.”
Another bonus of being a part of ODK is that it is a “very low time commitment, with only one meeting per month, which makes it a good fit for people wanting to be more involved in campus life but not wanting to overwhelm themselves,” said Mehrley.
Mehrley said that these monthly meetings unusually consist of “devotion, leadership group activity or guest speaker, a chance to share what's happening around campus and snacks.”
The Concordia circle also has extra events for people to enjoy, like the initiation ceremony in January and the end-of-the-year pizza party where they elect the board for the following year.
Mehrley said the best part about ODK is that she has “gotten the opportunity to continue to grow as a leader while getting to know so many other leaders on campus.”
Benefits of being a part of ODK extend even after graduation. Once you are initiated, the membership is lifelong. Some benefits students can take advantage of are ODK scholarships, access to internships and experiences, career connections, various educational programs, insurance and professional services, travel and entertainment discounts, and other shopping discounts.
ODK is a selective organization, and you must be invited to join. If you are interested in joining, keep an eye out in your email for an invitation or contact Circle President Rebekah Mehrley for more information on becoming a competitive candidate.
