During Spring Break, from Mon. Feb. 28 to  Sat. Mar. 5, students became immersed in nature and embarked on a Basecamp camping trip to Bishop, CA. The trip, consisting of both beginner and experienced campers, was an adventure of a lifetime, visiting multiple locations in Death Valley, Mammoth Mountain, Convict Lake, Lake Sabrina, Inyo National Forest, Ancient Bristlecone Pines, natural hot springs, Alabama Hills and more.

On Tues., Feb. 22, the Black Student Union (BSU)  held their annual block party in Sigma General where they celebrated Black culture through businesses, music, food and trivia. 

Senior Miylan Eubanks said that the Black Student Union’s mission is to “Give Black students a safe space on campus to decompress, have a good time, and push forward the best version of themselves.” Eubanks found that the club has a “good sense of community, and they allow a space where Black culture can take its shape in all forms and not just a standard monolith,” and the annual BSU block party is a place where this takes form.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Schramm went to sleep in the Lord on February 20 after being diagnosed with terminal cancer last fall. 

As one of the “founding five” faculty members, Martin Schramm helped build Concordia University Irvine’s academic foundation, student body and popular communications program. Schramm was the last of the original five to retire, teaching his final classes in the spring of 2016.
