Raymond Odom, headlining Concordia soccer player and sophomore, gives back on and off the field. On Jan. 22, Odom spearheaded a soccer uniform giveaway to students of his alma mater, at Jones High School.
“I presented brand new uniforms to my high school. They were in need of uniforms but from lack of funding had been forced to wear 5-year-old uniforms,” said Odom. Odom saw a need and decided he had to do something about it. So, he partnered with Jones High School Athletics, and put his hand-eye coordination to the test, making his vision come to life.
“I saw the uniforms those young adults were wearing, and remembered how I felt wearing the same old uniforms. [I] made … the decision to change this for these young adults and better their experience with the sport,” said Odom.
When explaining why the cause is so close to his heart Odom said, “I understand how soccer can be used as a tool in life… Everyone who decides to play the sport does it for a reason. Therefore, making their experience better within the sport aids these young adults in achieving whatever objectives they have out there.”
“I’m currently doing what I have a passion for in life, but at the same time helping young adults whose position I was in just a few years ago makes me wake up motivated to continue to grind and progress further in life”
In a final word, Odom extended his gratitude to everyone who helped make his vision possible. “I just want to say thank you to all the donors for their contributions and the staff at Jones High School for allowing me to contribute to the future of the school’s soccer team.”
