The Concordia women’s basketball team is looking to prepare for their upcoming season with the main objective being to build from last season's 17-10 overall record and continue to push toward a great season.
Last season for the Lady Eagles was successful with a winning record and playing in the quarterfinals of the PacWest tournament. But, even with success comes a fire from the team that is pushing them to go above and beyond.
Key players Teagan Thurman and Caylee Santos look to add to this mentality of winning every possible game they can and are looking forward to a great season as they have both been practicing hard.
Thurman said, “The team is looking good and promising so far. We got three transfers and a great freshman class.” She added, “Losing such a high level player like Mick [Michaela VanderKlugt, former center] hurts but gaining Savannah Felix-Amoroso back is a huge bonus. Also getting seniors taking their fifth year is huge since they are vital pieces for our team.”
With a hopeful vision for the team, Thurman said that the goal is, “to win and go as far as we can.”
Team comradery is key to achieving their goals. “To love one another. To push each other to be the best they can be and to trust the process,” Thurman said.
Santos mentioned important points ahead of this year as well. “I’d say our team is looking pretty solid so far. We are building a lot of chemistry especially with our newcomers,” Santos said.
Ahead of this exciting season, it seems that the boost of the transfer and incoming class will help improve this already talented squad. Santos said, “We have a strong freshman and transfer class this season.” She added, “With these recruits I think we will help push our team far into the season.”
With winning games comes championships, and Santos has a main objective of winning silverware. She says, “Our goal is to be conference champs.”
If the team stays true to each other, Santos said they can get to where they want to be, “The main team values are communication on and off the court as well as keeping each other accountable.”
