Homecoming will look a little differently with activities held both online and in-person on the weekend of January 28. The LEAD team, Athletics, and Alumni team coordinated for a weekend of festivities.

LEAD Student Activities Director, Sarah Zimmer said, “LEAD is constantly communicating with the school to find out what events we are allowed to put on for the undergraduate students and what adjustments we need to make it happen. Luckily, we have been allowed to continue to put on our Homecoming Dance, which will be on Jan. 28th, so we have started ticket sales! Students can buy a ticket anytime through the CSLD, and the Student Activities team will be tabling outside of the cafeteria everyday up until the dance so there is plenty of time to grab a ticket!”

Zimmer added, “Ticket prices go up every week, so make sure to get them sooner rather than later! Students can also get tickets for guests who do not attend CUI.”

The Alumni Homecoming events have been moved to a virtual setting. The weekend consists of Friday and Saturday online events, including Virtual Bingo and an awards ceremony. CUI will also honor the 2022 Alumni of the Year.

Notable alumni include: Teresa Flynn-Everett ’97, MA ’08, who won distinction as Professional Achievement Award for achievement in leadership as a professional speaker and author; Eric Velazquez ’99, a police officer with the Murrieta Police Department, who won the Distinguished Service Award, and Jon-Thomas Royston ’15, who will be awarded the G.O.L.D. (Graduate of the Last Decade) Achievement Award for his work as the Co-Founder and Producer at Never Whisper Justice.

The Alumni Homecoming Weekend will continue with the Kenneth A. Walker Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held in hybrid format to recognize athletes and graduates of Concordia. Recipients include Jenna Haley (Jorgenson) ‘14, Madison Anema (Ekis) ‘13, and the men’s basketball team of 2012 for their National Championship.

Athletics will conclude with the homecoming basketball games, live-streamed to all audience members. Both the women and men will play Hawaii Pacific University at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively.
